Marissa Station in Marissa, Illinois, is located just four miles from Sparta's World Shooting and Recreational Complex. This bed and breakfast offers unique accommodations for those not wanting to stay in the hotels and motels of town.
This two-story, brick building was built in 1894 and has been owned by five separate families and used for even more purposes. The Marissa Station house was originally a combination residence and meat market owned by the Hotz family. The appeal of the home's 14-foot ceilings, transom windows and intricate molding made it attractive for others when the Hotz family finally vacated 70 years later. It housed businesses such as an insurance company and a paint store before being refurbished into a bed and breakfast in 2004. Today it provides luxury accommodations for those visiting the area. Guests enjoy the use of a luxury apartment-style bedroom as well as daily hot breakfast made to order.
Two blocks from downtown Sparta, the Moody Manor is a two-story brick house located within a 10-minute drive from the shooting complex. This old-style country home was built in 1854. The big porch seen in the movie "In the Heat of the Night" that was filmed here and classic décor help this bed and breakfast remain cozy and country, despite the fact that is has been improved dramatically to include more modern conveniences. Guests here enjoy modest rooms and a daily breakfast offering. Rooms have king beds and claw foot whirlpool tubs. However, space is limited since there are only three rooms available.
