The Wisp Resort is located in McHenry, less than 10 miles from Deep Creek Lake. You can snow tube, ski or snowboard or even go ice fishing on the mountains and lakes around Wisp Resort. The resort also offers a "Flying Squirrel Canopy Tour," which takes you across trees, bridges and views of Deep Creek Lake. Nearby restaurants include Black Bear Tavern, DC's Bar and Restaurant and Pine Lodge Steakhouse. Small dogs are allowed for a $50 non-refundable fee per stay, as of late 2010.
The Inn at Deep Creek is located in Oakland, about 10 miles from the lake. Down the street from the Inn at Deep Creek is the Honi-Honi Bar, which features live music and drink specials. You can buy sandwiches and other groceries at Arrowhead Market, right next door to the inn. Uno Chicago Grill is also a short walk from the inn and features pastas, steaks, appetizers and sandwiches. Dogs that are crate trained and housebroken are allowed. As of late 2010, dogs under 25 pounds are $25 per night. Dogs over 25 pounds are $50 a night and must be approved by the front desk.
Bear Creek Crossing Bed and Breakfast is located in Accident, just under 15 miles from Deep Creek Lake. You can contact Pleasant Valley Dream Rides for a horse-drawn sleigh or carriage ride, depending on the season. You'll find many quaint restaurants rather than chain restaurants in Accident. Visit the Drane House, which is believed to be the oldest standing structure in Garrett County. Dogs are allowed for a fee of $20 a day, as of late 2010, and you must pay in cash.
The Yough Valley Motel is in Friendsville, about 15 miles from the lake. You can take a rafting trip down the Youghiogheny River, which flows through town, while staying at the Yough Valley Motel. The rafting is considered to be some of the best east of the Mississippi. You can also visit the local coffee shop, the community park or the Friend's Museum. Pets are allowed for $15 a night.
Woodland Rill Bed and Breakfast is located in Grantsville, under 20 miles from the lake. Just down the street from the bed and breakfast, you can visit Historic Casselman Bridge. The bridge was the largest single span arch bridge in the U.S. when it was built in 1835. Spruce Forest Artisan Village is also located in Grantsville and includes restored log cabins, school houses and a church. Well behaved and house trained dogs are allowed for an extra $10.
Savage River Lodge is in Frostburg, about 30 miles from Deep Creek Lake. The lodge is surrounded by more than 700 acres of forests and offers plenty of activities. You can follow animal tracks, bird watch, star gaze, take a carriage or sleigh ride, ski, fly fish or visit a local art gallery. You can also visit the Frostburg Arts and Entertainment District, an area downtown that was officially given this title to highlight the town's artistic history. Dogs are $25 a night and reservations must be made in advance. Dogs are given a daily treat and you can also purchase a pet basket or pampered pet package.
