North Shore Cottages, on North Shore Scenic Drive just outside Duluth, offers wooden cabin-style properties for rent, which are especially affordable during the less-busy seasons. The cabins are within easy access of beautiful Lake Superior for fishing and canoeing, and nearby opportunities for skiing, snowshoeing and other winter sports abound. Rates start as low as $49 for an off-peak, midweek room, as of 2010.
The Sandy Point Vacation rental home, in Duluth's Park Point Island, is a more upscale cabin option for people looking for much larger accommodations. The beachfront Sandy Point home features four bedrooms and three bathrooms, a full kitchen, fireplace, a large private yard, free wireless internet access and as well as a loft reading area. Flagship rentals also has two other larger properties it rents, but they are not in the cabin style. Off-peak weekday rates begin at $295 per night, as of 2010.
Mountain Villas, on Spirit Mountain overlooking Duluth, offers 14 different cabin-style properties, all situated above Spirit Mountain ski area, making it an ideal location for downhill skiing in the winter and just steps from the Timber Twister Alpine Coaster for warm weather fun. Each cabin accommodates up to six people with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, fireplace, free Wi-Fi and a full kitchen. Some have whirlpools, and some cabins are dog-friendly. Midweek rates outside of peak season are as low as $85 per night, as of 2010.
Dodge's Log Lodges, 11 miles north of Duluth on the scenic highway, offers rentals in six different log cabins, five of which sit directly on the rocky shore of Lake Superior (the 'Lodge' cabin is one house-length from the water). The largest cabin (the 'Superior') can hold up to six people. All cabins feature decks with barbecue grills, a fully-stocked kitchen, and include towels and bed linens. Weekday winter rates begin at $139 per night, as of 2010.
