In an age of luxurious RVs and cabins stocked with modern amenities, sometimes it can be a little hard to get that old-time wilderness camping experience. Here's an exception: Ohio has some campgrounds around the state where guests can stay in tepees and at least get a taste of how the Indians lived on the Great Plains.
Located in Northern Ohio, the Indian Trail Campground has an Indian mound that is a 15-minute walk from the camping facilities. It also has tepees available for rent that are ideal for families and groups. Amenities on the property include a pavilion, paved streets, a store with groceries and gifts, a swimming pool, a laundry facility, restrooms and showers. Additional features at the Indian Trail Campground, which also has full hookup RV sites and log cabins, include an eight-acre lake for fishing, canoes and paddleboats available for rent, hiking trails, a game room, and a playground. Boating, fishing, hiking, and are popular activities at a park that also hosts entertainment such as karaoke, dancing and live bands.

The Boulders Edge Cabin & Tipi Retreat has tepee sites available for rent that come with army cots, picnic tables, fire rings, portable toilets and fire extinguishers. Because its solar showers require a lot of sun, the tepees are only available from May through October. Guests who stay in the tepees need to bring items such as towels and their own cooking utensils. This retreat in Southeastern Ohio has amenities that include a telescope, a hot tub, a pond for fishing and swimming, a full kitchen in a clubhouse and a picnic area. Hiking trails on the grounds lead to a large rock bridge formation. A store is on the property that sells items such as firewood, ice, snacks, ice cream, clothing and gifts.
