Rent an apartment for your stay. There are many apartments for rent from $100 to $500 a month. Be cautious not be taken advantage of, as renters in the past have been known to be overcharged if the owner assumes they are wealthy.
Consider a bed-and-breakfast stay. Some Dushanbe bed and breakfasts offer the same luxury items as many of the hotels, including excellent meals and Internet access.
Research your lodging thoroughly. There are luxury or near-luxury accommodations within Dushanbe, but unfortunately the listings of accommodations for perusal online are limited. You may want to consider booking through a travel agent for convenience.
Prepare for minimal amenities. Electricity and running water are not available in much of Dushanbe, although luxury accommodations should have these "necessities" available.
Be on guard for potential street crime. A falling economy in Tajikistan has accompanied a rise in crime in Dushanbe, and visitors are advised to be extra careful when traveling at night.
Consider the convenience of flight travel. Due to the mountainous terrain, most Dushanbe travel should be done by plane or helicopter.
Experience the music and tastes of the traditional Tajik chaikhana or teahouses. They can be recognized by trademark colorful benches outside the building.
