Explore the options. Spend some time investigating the area through the Internet and with guidebooks from Asheville and the surrounding area. Many options are available, so you should be able to find what you want. Mountain lakes, rivers, streams and trails cover the area and provide many recreational options. The Appalachian Trail is in the area, as well as many other local trails. Whitewater rafting, as well as smooth water rafting and snow skiing are available for adventure-minded people. Decide what type of cabin you want. Do you want a cabin in or near town, or do you want a cabin in remote wilderness? State parks and some national forests offer cabins that may have few services but offer solitude and beautiful views. In town are more nicely appointed cabins that are often privately owned and rented. Research is the key to finding what you want.
Examine listings of cabin rentals. Many websites offer listings, and many real estate agencies also have listings of cabins. Many have detailed descriptions and pictures to help you choose just the right spot. Check classified advertising to find out about individuals renting cabins. Also check with area real estate agencies who often manage cabins for cabin owners.
Order your cabin reservation well in advance. Once you have found the perfect cabin, you may reserve it with a credit card in most cases. After you choose your cabin, often you will have to make the reservation by telephone and with a credit card. If needed, you may be able to conduct the transaction by mail.
