Michigan Romantic Resorts

Romantic getaways are important for many couples to help them reconnect and escape from the stress of everyday life. For some couples that means sitting a hot tub or by the fireplace, sipping wine, watching the sunset or going to the spa for massages. For other couples, it means packing the day with activities they can do together, like skiing, hiking, biking and horseback riding. Michigan has resorts suited for either getaway.

  1. The Homestead: America's Freshwater Resort

    • The Homestead is located just north of Glen Arbor, Michigan, along a mile of Lake Michigan shoreline. The resort has something for everyone year-round, but The Homestead's Little Belle accommodations were created with couples in mind. Little Belle has a plaza, gardens, a creek and a carillon that make an ideal setting for romantic strolls. In the summer, couples can head to the beach and relax or watch the sunset. In winter, pairs can hit the ski trails--downhill and cross country--that wind through resort grounds on the Leelanau Peninsula before heading back to the warmth of their rooms. Little Belle accommodations include a king-sized bed, fireplace, jet tub for two, and each room is decorated with unique artwork, fabric and antiques. The resort spa offers duet massages for two, or a 90-minute couple's massage session where a massage therapist teaches partners different techniques they can use together.

    Boyne Highlands Resort

    • Boyne Highlands Resort is an ideal winter getaway in Michigan, but summer also provides outdoor activities for couples who like to play together. The resort recommends the Alpine Village accommodations for romantic getaways. Alpine Village is made up of condominiums that give guests the feeling they are staying in a rustic northern cabin. They include king or queen sized beds, a whirlpool tub, fireplace and living room, full kitchen and dining area. The Village is near the North Peak Pass ski run, so guests can ski directly in and out of their accommodations.

Activities in the winter include downhill and cross country skiing, ice skating, horse-drawn sleigh rides, dog sledding and swimming in a heated pool. Summer activities include horseback riding, mountain biking, scenic chairlift rides, hiking and more.

    Misson Point Resort

    • Mission Point Resort is located on Mackinac Island between Michigan's upper and lower peninsulas. The island is a real getaway because it is only accessible by boat, and no vehicles are allowed there. The resort offers activities and services especially for couples, including picnics on the grounds, couple's massage, dinners for two at the Epicurean Restaurant, drinks at a bistro overlooking the Straits of Mackinac, bike rentals (including a bicycle built for two), games of tennis, croquet or bocce ball, strawberries and champagne, wine and cheese and room service. Some suites at Mission Point include a private outdoor hot tub.
