Pinetop-Lakeside is located in the beautiful White Mountains of Arizona within easy reach of Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque and El Paso. Known for its recreational activities, it is home to the world's largest area of Ponderosa Pine. Pinetop and Lakeside merged into one community in 1984. Nearby, the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest and Fort Apache Indian Reservation's RV parks offer plenty of opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, biking and camping.

    • Camping, RV parks and picnic facilities abound throughout Pinetop, Arizona. Some of the RV parks are open year-round, so campers can enjoy cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, sledding and ice fishing during winter months. Whatever season you choose to camp at an RV park in Pinetop, there are plenty of activities for the whole family. The Hon-Dah Resort & Casino hosts a Winter Festival that includes ice carving and a chili cook-off. Another winter event is a snowboarding competition at Sunrise Ski Resort in February.

      Spring brings the Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Family Easter Walk. June presents the Annual Father's Day Fishing Contest in Woodland Lake Park and in July, you can attend the Annual White Mountain Native American Art Festival at the Hon-Dah Conference Center. In October, Hon-Dah Resort hosts Oktoberfest and in December, you can enjoy Santa and his elves and live entertainment at the Woodland Park Holiday Festival and Christmas Tree Lighting.

    • The Hon-Dah Casino RV Park offers all the amenities of home in a peaceful, relaxing setting that is also pet friendly. The park has 269 sites with electric hook-ups, 50-amp service, wireless Internet and modem hook-ups, cable TV and telephones. There are pull-thru sites, big rig access, and 24-hour security with an on-site manager.

      The park is owned and operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe, which also owns the adjacent casino and hotel. The majority of RV sites are used as summer and winter homes by residents of Phoenix and Tucson. Visitors cannot use the nearby resort's facilities. As of 2010, rates are $27.81 daily, $156.56 weekly and $413.13 monthly.

    Lewis Canyon Group Campground

    • Lewis Canyon Group Campground has scenic lakes and meadows and abounds with wildlife such as deer, elk, antelope, black bears and turkeys. It offers hiking in the White Mountains, biking, horse riding, baseball, horseshoes and trout fishing. The campground has a 45-foot trailer limit and a two-week stay limit. Water is available in Pinetop, about 10 miles southeast of the park. There are dumpsters and four large BBQ grills, but no electric hook-up.

      The park is open from May 1 through September 30. As of 2010, the daily/nightly rate is $40 for a standard group unit. Rates do not reflect attribute fees such as electrical and water hook-ups or taxes. Weekly rates may not be available for all sites.

    Los Burros Campground

    • The Los Burros Campground is located near the White Mountain Apache Reservation in Pinetop and has 10 sites that will accommodate trailers up to 22 feet long. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring/grill with nearby toilets. There is no fee for this campground; however, there is no garbage service, no water service, and a 14-day stay limit. Open from May to October, Los Burros is located at the edge of a scenic meadow with plenty of Aspen trees and hiking trails. It has an old barn and corral that are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

    Scott Reservoir Campground

    • Scott Reservoir Campground is another free park and is open all year except in extreme cold or icy weather. There are 15 campsites with fire rings and tables. Facilities include vaulted toilets, a garbage dumpster and an accessible boat ramp. Food, gas and other services are available in nearby Pinetop-Lakeside. Campers can picnic along the lake shore and surrounding area. During July, August and September, thunderstorms are frequent and develop suddenly. Take precautions against lightning and get off the lake as soon as possible.

      Campers should be aware that drinking water is not available at the campground. There is a five-day stay limit during any 30-day period. Any fishing enthusiasts over 14 years old will be required to obtain a fishing license and trout stamp. The Scott Reservoir is known to have rainbow trout, brown trout, channel cat, large mouth bass, green sunfish, blue gill, black bull head, and carp.

    Lakeside Campground

    • Lakeside Campground, located south of the Lakeside Ranger Station on State Highway 260 in Pinetop, is one of the oldest National Forest campgrounds. It will accommodate trailers and motor homes up to 32 feet long and is open from May 1 to September 31. The facilities include tables and fire grills, vault toilets, a dump station, and campground hosts. Groceries, gas and restaurants are available in nearby Lakeside. Utility hook-ups are not available. Pets are allowed but must be on a leash. As of 2010, rates are $14 per night for a single family and $12 for a standard family camp unit.
