Buxton and the Peak District National Park Boundary

Buxton, a spa town in Derbyshire, England, lies just outside the Peak District National Park boundary. It is not inside the park.

Details

  • The park boundary runs along the A515 road south of Buxton.
  • Buxton’s town center is ~1–2 km from the park edge.
  • Popular park areas nearby: Dove Dale, Chee Dale, Monsal Dale (all within 5–10 min drive).

Why the Confusion?

Buxton is the largest town adjacent to the park and a major gateway for visitors. Many assume it’s inside because it’s the natural base for Peak District trips.
