How was the Yellowstone national park formed?

The Yellowstone National Park was formed by a series of volcanic eruptions that occurred over millions of years. These eruptions created the caldera, or large crater, that is now the park's main feature. The most recent eruption occurred 640,000 years ago and created the caldera that is now Yellowstone Lake. The park is also home to many geysers, hot springs, and mud pots, all of which are heated by the geothermal energy of the volcanic area.
