Not necessarily. Residency is determined by a number of factors, including physical presence, intent to remain in the state, and maintenance of certain ties to the state. Selling your home and moving out of the US does not automatically mean you are no longer a California resident.

California uses a "domicile" system, which means that it considers a person to be a resident if they have a true, fixed, and permanent home in California. To establish domicile in California, a person must have both physical presence in the state and an intent to make California their permanent home.
