Tips for a Celebrity Equinox Cruise

Celebrity Cruises Equinox offers 10-day and 11-day itineraries, sailing in Europe during the summer and the Caribbean in winter. Launched 2009, it is the second in the line's luxury Solstice class ships featuring cabins designed for spa enthusiasts, specialty dining and a manicured lawn for picnicking or sunbathing.
  1. Itineraries

    • The Equinox departs from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for its "Ultimate Caribbean" itinerary in mid-March. The longer sailings allow stops at many of the popular ports such as St. Thomas, St. Martin and Dominica as well as some lesser-known spots such as Colon, Panama, and Puerto Limon, Costa Rica.

In early May, the Equinox makes its 14-day trans-Atlantic voyage, stopping in at Barcelona, Spain, Provence, France and Ponta Delgada, Azores among other ports, before arriving in Italy. The return trip is made late November. Throughout the summer the Equinox sails the eastern Mediterranean, from Rome to Turkey, Greece and other Italian ports.

Book early for the Mediterranean sailings, which are very popular in the European market, according to Celebrity spokeswoman Tavia Robb.

    Staterooms

    • Cruise ships sail into Greek harbor.

The Equinox boasts 1,426 cabins, including family suites, which are on average 15 percent larger than those on other Celebrity ships. Reserve the AquaClass or Sunset Veranda staterooms for relaxation or spectacular views.

AquaClass cabins, on deck 11 near the AquaSpa, are designed to incorporate a spa-like experience. For example, to keep noise to a minimum only two passengers -- no children-- are allowed per cabin. AquaClass cabins have extended spa amenities, including five-head showers, and guests have free access to the aromatherapy and relaxation rooms. They also have free and priority seating at Blu, the restaurant that specializes in Mediterranean organic cuisine.

The Sunset Veranda staterooms are located along several decks at the rear presenting "panoramic views of the ocean and ship's wake," said Robb.

    Dining and Entertainment

    • The Equinox has 10 restaurants including a mix of specialty venues that charge a per guest fee. Make reservations at the Murano, a romantic fine-dining restaurant serving modern Continental cuisine. Also recommended, the Bistro on Five, a casual creperie offering soups and salads. Check whether a celebrity chef will be on your sailing for special feasts and demonstrations.

Live music, reviews, comedy, plays and even lectures are offered from a variety of entertainment nightspots. Pack appropriate formal attire for at least two nights; at other times casual wear is fine.

    Special Features

    • Sunset Veranda staterooms offer panoramic ocean views.

Each ship in Celebrity's Solstice class has its own art collection of carefully curated paintings, sculptures and photographs. Enjoy the Equinox collection with interactive, self-guided iPad tours, available from the guest relations desk.

On the top deck is the Lawn Club, a half-acre of real, living grass for sports, sunbathing and picnicking. Look also on the top deck for glass-blowing demonstrations at the studio run by the Corning Museum of Glass and take a unique souvenir home.
