Weekend Youth Trips

When deciding on the type of weekend youth trip to adventure on, consider the type of kids going and what type of activities they show interest in. If the group of kids is from an inner city atmosphere perhaps they would benefit from an outdoor adventure to broaden their experiences.
  1. Camping

    • Camping is a good idea for a youth weekend trip. Camping trips can include one or two overnight stays at numerous campgrounds throughout the country. Campers will need to bring along a tent if one is not being provided for them, a sleeping bag, pillow, clothing, toiletries, bug spray and any medication. Camping trips provide a wonderful experience for youths who live in the city or suburbs where the great outdoors is limited. Events during the trip can include nature hikes, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, swimming, fishing, singing and roasting marshmallows around the campfire.

    Whitewater Rafting

    • Youth trip weekends can include a whitewater rafting trip. Rafting trips can include one or two days on the rapids with an overnight stay at a campsite or hotel nearby the rafting company. Rafting tours can vary from easy rapids to rough rapids depending on the experience of the youths on the trip. Swimsuits, shorts and water shoes are good for hot days. Layered clothing during a cooler day is wise because once your wet you will stay wet through the entire trip. Life jackets are provided for those who don't know how to swim.

    Day Hikes

    • Taking a youth group on a weekend guided hiking trip is a great way to get them out into the open fresh air. Bring along one backpack, including your sleeping bag, clothing, water bottle and toiletries. Tents, portapotties and food may or may not be provided so check with the company giving the tour. Daytime hikes can include rugged and rocky terrain, so a good sneaker or hiking boot is recommended. Ponds or natural watering holes may be stops along the hiking trail, so bring along a bathing suit and towel for a cool relaxing break on the hike. Guided tours are safe and monitored -- help is easily accessed in an emergency.

    Ski Weekends

    • Ski weekends are perfect for a youth ski team or club. Ski resorts are nestled near or within the mountains and provide a warm, friendly hotel setting with many activities within the lodge and out on the hills. You can rent all equipment. Ski during the day or in the evening if the resort is equipped with appropriate lighting. Ski lodges usually include restaurants and fireplaces in the lobby provide warm places to relax after a long day out in the cold.
