Family Gold Panning Vacations

Panning for gold is an exciting adventure that is fun for all ages. Campgrounds with gold mining access also have a variety of other activities such as hiking, swimming, fishing and horseback riding. Gold mining locations typically have a campground on the property for convenient accommodations; however, there are usually hotels within close proximity for those who prefer to stay off the gold mining properties.
  1. Roaring Camp Mining Company

    • The Roaring Camp Mining Company, located in Pine Grove, California has camping cabins available as well as space for tent campers. Gold mining can be done through sluicing, dry washing, dredging and/or panning. Each cabin is allowed one piece of mining equipment such as a dredge as well as small sluice boxes and gold pans. The property has an operating gold mine for visitors to tour prior to beginning their own mining adventure. The campsite has other activities available as well such as hiking, fishing, miniature golf, a playground and diving rocks. Rock collecting for jade, arrowheads, river rubies and quartz crystals is also an option at the Roaring Camp Mine. Each Saturday the campground sponsors a free cookout for the campers that includes a five-hour hike into the canyon, a tour of the museum and gold mine operation followed by a steak and barbecue dinner.

    The Lucky Strike Gold & Gem Mine

    • The Lucky Strike Gold & Gem Mine is located in Marion, North Carolina. The Lucky Strike has a campground that includes 51 campsites, a shower house, restrooms, gift shop and a diner. All campsites have electric and water hookups and 26 of the sites also have sewer hookups. The campers do not have to pay an additional fee for gold mining in the river; however, those not camping on the property, as of December 2010, are required to pay a $5 fee for mining. Each Thursday night the campground has a free pot luck dinner. Gold mining equipment can be rented or purchased from the Lucky Strike. Visitors who prefer to stay off-site, the Super 8 Motel, Park Inn and Blue Ridge Country Club & Lodge are all within close proximity to the mining area.

    Alabama Gold Camp

    • The Alabama Gold Camp is located in Lineville, Alabama. The gold camp has "mining shacks," primitive camping and camping with hookups available on the property. As of December 2010 the shack rates are $65 per night for two adults and $10 for each additional person. These shacks are equipped with a television, air conditioning/heat, DVD player, small refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, linens and soap, the rates for "shack" rental do not include the prospecting fees. There is a general store on the property for purchasing gold mining equipment and/or any camping necessities. Gold panning is available at the general store as well as river mining. There are a variety of activities available at the campground including hiking and horseback riding.
