Southwest Airlines offers considerable discounts to travelers age 65 or older. On certain flights, seniors may benefit up to 20 percent off the "Anytime" airfare. The senior discount is not as deep as the airline's "Wanna Get Away" discount, but those discounts are limited; so the senior discount is a good alternative for standard-fare flights. If a senior is traveling with a younger companion, the senior discount does not transfer to that companion. Senior fares are available via the website or the telephone. Southwest requires age verification at the airport for those seniors not already age-verified.

Denver-based Frontier Airlines offers seniors a 10 percent discount. Travelers 62 years of age and older will receive 10 percent lower than the lowest reservations or web fares offered. This offer is extended to one traveling companion of any age when both the senior and companion book their travel at the same time. Seniors are requested to provide a government-issued photo ID verifying their ages when they check in at the airport. The senior fare is applied before taxes are factored.

Continental extends discounts to senior citizens who are 65 years of age or older. According to Continental Airlines reservations' agents, they do not offer a standard discount rate, and they also don't offer senior discounts for each destination. Seniors interested in flying Continental should call the airline and inquire about senior fares. If your travel is flexible for date and destination, it's more likely that you'll be able to take advantage of one of their senior discount rates.
