Dress the part. Las Vegas is in the desert so summertime temperatures exceed 100 degrees, but the nights can be quite cool. Also, restaurants and hotels on the strip are somewhat spread out so you will be doing a lot of walking. It is a good idea to pack summer clothes, a jacket for nighttime and some comfortable shoes. If you are into the club scene, keep in mind that people in Las Vegas get very dressed up to go out. Bring your trendiest party-going outfits if you don't want to stand out like a sore thumb.
Learn to play the games before you go. Knowing the rules of casino games will make gambling more fun and help you from blowing all of your money at the first table. You can look at your local bookstore or go online for the basic guidelines to playing popular games like poker, blackjack and roulette.
Stay hydrated. Most bars and casinos in Las Vegas are open 24 hours a day so it is easy to not only lose track of time, but to overindulge. You can also legally drink in the streets. Alcohol and hot weather combined are a recipe for dehydration. Buy a water bottle at a local convenience store (it is cheaper than buying one at a hotel) and carry it with you at all times.
Take advantage of freebies. The roller coaster on top of New York New York Hotel, the lion exhibit at MGM Grand, Bellagio's water show and the volcano at the Mirage are just a few of the free attractions in Las Vegas. Fremont Street also hosts free shows on most weekends. Also, one of the best perks of taking a trip to Las Vegas is that as long as you are gambling, most casinos will serve you all the free drinks you can handle.
