Activities for Kids in Las Vegas, Nevada

Dubbed "Sin City," Las Vegas' twinkling lights and showgirls hardly seem like the place for children. But, in recent years with the rise of many new hotels, Las Vegas has started to become kid-friendly. While the little ones can't participate in the over-21 fun, they can still enjoy the world's largest indoor theme park, world-class dining and cooling off in some of the most ornate pools in the United States.

  1. Theme Parks and Roller Coasters

    • What better place to spend the day with the kids than in the world's largest indoor theme park? Circus Circus' indoor park "Astrodome" features a roller coaster, a log flume and carnival games. But, don't expect it to be cheap. Rides can cost as much as $7 a head.

In addition to Circus Circus, kids can enjoy riding The Speed at the Sahara Hotel or New York, New York's roller coaster.

Take a Ride on the Canal

    • Have a Venetian vacation right here in the United States. Inside the aptly named Venetian Hotel, families can ride gondolas just like the ones in Venice and even be serenaded by opera singers. Although it's not cheap (around $30), you won't see any rats running around like in the real Venice.

    The Excalibur

    • Treat your kids to some great carnival games and the Sponge-Bob Square Pants 4-D Adventure ride. Purchase hats and other knightly themed objects right here.

    Catch a Show

    • Many Broadway favorites, like "The Lion King," have made Vegas their permanent home. In addition, many of the Cirque du Soleil shows are not just thrilling, but family friendly. Visit Vegas.com to find out which shows are playing and when. Sometimes Vegas.com even offers discount tickets.

    Dining

    • The Rainforest Cafe in the MGM Grand or California Pizza Kitchen in the Mirage are great places for kids. Also, try Canter's Deli in Treasure Island or visit Planet Hollywood's own restaurant in the Planet Hollywood Resort.

    The Lion and Dolphin Habitats

    • Check out some of the lions and tigers used in Siegfried and Roy's world renowned shows at the special habitat behind The Mirage. As an added bonus, kids can get up close and personal with dolphins, and you can even set up a special private viewing hang out with just the dolphins and your family.

    Go Off the Strip

    • There are great things to enjoy off the Strip, too. Take the kids to nearby Lake Mead to enjoy swimming and water sports. Take a tour of the Hoover Dam or drive out to Redrock (about a 20-minute drive) for some breathtaking views and hiking. Or, you can take some time out to go to the Lied Discovery Children's Museum and do some great hands-on activities.

    The Pool

    • Each Las Vegas casino and resort has its own pool, and some of them can be entered by nonguests for a nominal fee. With rich landscaping and food service, you'll be begging to take a dip to cool off. Cabanas can usually be rented for around $350 to $500. Check with each resort about pricing and hours, or visit VegasHotelPools.com for more information.
