Things for Kids to Do in Las Vegas

Walking among the resorts in Las Vegas and taking in the sights and sounds of the busy city is one activity that children visiting the city will likely enjoy, but as the Frommer's travel website notes, most of the activities in Las Vegas are designed for adults. Luckily, there are a variety of fun and appropriate places to take children in Las Vegas if you are willing to look beyond the typical resort and casino offerings.
  1. Adventuredome

    • Located inside the Circus, Circus Resort, the Adventuredome is a 5-acre indoor theme park. While most of its rides have height requirements, there are an assortment of family rides for children of all ages to enjoy with an adult, including a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round and a bus ride. Children over 3 feet tall are able to ride a child-sized roller coaster, plane ride and the "Frog Hopper" tower ride on their own. Admission to Adventuredome is free, and ticketing options for the amusement park include individual tickets for each ride, as well as an all-day pass, providing unlimited rides on all of the park's attractions for the day.

    Las Vegas Natural History Museum

    • The Las Vegas Natural History Museum offers "The MGM/MIRAGE Young Scientist Center," an exhibit designed specifically for children and their families. Other exhibits at the museum include an aquarium, a geology gallery, a prehistoric gallery and an Egypt exhibit. The museum also offers "Weekend Science," providing hands-on lessons and activities for museum guests on the weekends. The museum is open daily, excluding major holidays.

    Lied Discovery Children's Museum

    • The Lied Discovery Children's Museum provides more than 100 hands-on exhibits, spanning 23,000 square feet, for children to explore, according to its website. The museum offers several permanent galleries, and a wide array of traveling exhibits, as well as providing art and science programs and special activities for young children. The museum is open Tuesday though Sunday and on select Mondays. Museum hours vary based on the season. Children under 13 visiting the museum are required to visit with an adult.

    Las Vegas Zoo

    • The only year-round zoo in Nevada, the Las Vegas Zoo is home to more than 150 spices of animals and plants, according to its website. Animals at the zoo include large cats, exotic reptiles, all species of native Southern Nevada venomous reptiles, and an assortment of birds, among other animals. The zoo is open daily and provides discounted admission for children, including free admission for children under the age of two.
