Dress comfortably for travel. While stilettos, dresses, skinny jeans and other clothes may look fashionable, they are not conducive for racing through airport terminals or sitting through long flights. Dress in layers so you can easily remove or add an article of clothing and be comfortable in a wide range of temperatures. Consider wearing shoes that are easy to slip on and off: you'll be happy you did when you're flying through security.
Before your flight, pack a carry-on bag with everything you will need for the duration of your trip. A backpack or small rolling suitcase are the easiest to maneuver through the busy airport. Since you will be unable to access your checked luggage, be sure to pack the carry-on with anything you want to use on the flights or in the airport.
Check your schedule. Knowing how much time you have between flights lets you plan how to make the most out of your layover. For instance, reading a couple of magazines may be enough to keep you busy during a two-hour wait, but you'll need more activities to remain comfortable for six hours.
Use the restrooms. Alleviate yourself in an airport restroom, then freshen up by washing your face with a wet paper towel to feel instantly more comfortable and less like you've just stepped off a plane.
Grab some food. If you're stomach is growling after your flight, make it more comfortable by purchasing a meal. Avoid dehydration, too, by drinking plenty of water.
Take a nap. Long flights and time changes can leave you feeling exhausted. Find a seat, take out a travel pillow and try catching some sleep. Just be sure not to miss your next flight.
Go for a walk. Sitting on a plane for several hours can be uncomfortable. Exercise your muscles, stretch your limbs and get your blood flowing by going for a walk around the airport.
Partake in some activities you enjoy. Make yourself comfortable be grabbing a seat, listening to music, reading a book or magazine, doing crossword puzzles or sudoku, or using your computer or other electronic device.
