    Holiday in Dixie

    • Holiday in Dixie is one of the oldest festivals in Louisiana. The first one was held in 1949 and focused on Shreveport's history. Featuring family activities and a celebration of the Louisiana Purchase, Holiday in Dixie still highlights the region's history, while promoting economic development and community pride. The festival, held every April, has added a Treasure Hunt, parade and riverfront activities as it has grown. Balls such as the Plantation Ball, the Military Ball and Cotillion represent the formal and elegant elements of the celebration, while carnival rides (and that carnival food!) appeal to children and families. Local entertainment and vendors round out the wide-reaching appeal of the festival, and help boost it to its ranking among the Top 100 Events in North America as designated by the American Business Association. Admission is free to the festival events during the day for everyone, and children 12 and under are always free.
