Carnival Splendor Rules for Taking Alcohol on Board

Carnival cruise line enforces a strict alcohol policy on all its ships, the Splendor included. According to the Carnival website, this policy was created "to control the liquor consumption of minors and the quantities consumed that lead to the disruptive behavior of others on board." Carnival does not ban guests from bringing alcohol on board; however, it does place a number of restrictions on this practice.

  1. Embarkation Day

    • All Carnival cruise ships--including the Splendor--allow each guest who is of legal drinking age (21 years and older) to bring a maximum of one bottle of champagne or wine (750 ml) on board. This alcohol allowance only applies to embarkation day; any alcohol purchased on or during the cruise will be held by Carnival staff until the end of the cruise. In addition, alcohol must be packed in guests' carry-on luggage, and must be declared prior to boarding the ship. Guests wishing to drink their bottle of champagne or wine in the main dining room will be charged a corkage fee of $10. Guests wishing to drink their bottle of champagne or wine in the steakhouse will be charged a corkage fee of $14.

    Violations of Alcohol Policy

    • Carnival strongly enforces its alcohol policy. Any alcohol found in guests' checked luggage, undeclared alcohol and alcohol over the one-bottle-per-guest limit, will be confiscated. All confiscated alcohol will be returned to guests and delivered to their stateroom on the last night of the cruise, assuming it is unopened. Any open bottles will be emptied, and guests will not receive compensation for their loss.

    Duty-Free Alcohol

    • Duty-free alcohol can be purchased on board the Splendor and at most ports the ship visits. Alcohol purchased on the ship will be retained by the cashier, and delivered to guests' staterooms on the last night of the cruise. Alcohol purchased at any of the ports must be checked in prior to reboarding the ship. Again, all alcohol will be delivered to guests' staterooms on the last night of the cruise.
