What to Pack for a 7-Day Carnival Cruise

Packing for a seven-day Carnival Cruise can be a daunting task if you've never been on this type of trip before. Luckily, the following cheat sheet will assure that you have everything you need to enjoy your vacation on the seas. But if you forget something, don't fret. Carnival ships have on-board shops that carry basic and commonly forgotten items.
  1. Clothing

    • - Day wear. Bring whatever is comfortable. Cruises are very casual and most people can be seen wearing shorts, skirts, light T-shirts, tropical shirts and tank tops. Very Jimmy Buffett-esque.

      - Clothing for casual dinners. The cruises typically have four casual dinners, but this does not mean beachwear. Men wear polos or sport shirts and slacks; ladies wear sundresses or pant suits.

      - Clothing for smart-casual dinners. The cruises typically have one smart-casual night per cruise. Men are expected to wear dress pants and a sports coat. For ladies, nice dresses, skirts and pant suits are acceptable.

      - Clothing for formal dinners. The cruises typically have two formal nights. Men are expected to wear dark suits or tuxedos and ladies should wear cocktail dresses or gowns.

      - Swimsuits: Bring at least two. You don't want to be putting on the previous day's still-damp swimwear.

      - Appropriate footwear. Bring at least one pair of tennis shoes, sandals and dress shoes.

      - Pajamas. Three pairs of pajamas will be sufficient.

      - Undergarments. It's always a good idea to bring more of these than you think you are going to need.

      - Socks. Bring about four pairs.

    Accessories

    • - A waterproof camera. Purchasing a waterproof camera is highly recommended because, after all, you will be around water for the majority of your vacation.

      - A hat and sunglasses. These are ideal to keep the sun out of your face.

      - A beach towel. This item is optional as Carnival allows you to use its towels free of charge.

      - A beach bag. This is convenient when transporting all of the above items to the pool or beach.

    Odds and ends

    • - Your passport. Always bring your passport on vacation.

      - Sunscreen. Do yourself a favor and bring a lot of sunscreen if you are planning on spending time outside. You will get burnt very quickly on the ocean, and you don't want to be red in all of your beautiful dinner photos.

      - Toiletries. Bring deodorant, a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, shampoo, conditioner, a razor, makeup and any other items you will need.

      - Medications. The on-board shop should have some of the common medications like Tylenol, but don't forget to bring your prescription medications.

      - Zip-lock or other plastic bags. These come in handy for a variety of things, including: collecting sea shells, waterproofing your electronics at the pool, packing damp or dirty clothes and even taking a late-night snack back from dinner.
