What to Pack on a Cruise to the Mexican Riviera

Going on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera does not require much packing. The temperatures are usually warm and mild during the day with cool, breezy nights. Pack a few things for each type of weather and each type of activity and you should be ready for anything.
  1. Swim

    • A bathing suit is a necessity on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera. There will be plenty of opportunities for swimming or just laying out by the pool or on a beach. Pack at least two bathing suits so you always have a dry one to put on. Some people prefer a new suit for each day they are on the cruise. It's a good idea to have a bathing suit cover-up or two, as well. This way you don't have to wrap a towel around you as you walk from your room to the pool. Don't worry about packing towels; they are available on the ship. Towels can be used off the ship, but just remember to bring them back with you.

    Casual

    • There will be times on the ship that you just want to wear something comfortable. Nights on deck can be windy and cool so bring a light jacket that you can layer over a t-shirt. Yoga pants are light enough to keep you from sweating, but will keep you warm when you are heading to the all night cafe for a snack. Shore excursions may require a lot of walking in the hot sun so pack tennis shoes and a hat. Walking shorts, light colored t-shirts or even tank tops are also good for shore excursions.

    Semi-Formal

    • Cruises are known for their fancy dinners, so be sure to pack a semi-formal dress or pantsuit for at least one night. Men do not have to wear a tuxedo; a nice sports coat or blazer will do. Cruise ships also have nightclubs and lounges on board so bring along a few nice dresses or outfits that you would wear out to a local nightclub. Don't forget to pack a few pairs of dress sandals or heels to go with those outfits.

    Toiletry Items

    • As with any trip away from home, you want to bring your essential bathroom beauty items. Blow dryers are available on most ships but you should bring any other hair tools you use regularly. Other things to bring along include: toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, shaving kit, makeup, makeup remover, cotton balls, q-tips, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotions. Bring an umbrella or a raincoat. Cruise ships do have a convenience shop where these items can be purchased, but they can be expensive.
