The Pride of America cruise ship features innumerable activities to keep you busy during the day. Aerobic classes, yoga, boxercise and other fitness activities abound. Pack your workout clothes, two swimsuits, sandals or flip-flops, a cover-up and swimming cap and exercise shoes for the treadmills and other exercise equipment. Take t-shirts, shorts and sleeveless or short-sleeved tops for basketball, ping-pong, volleyball or the trampoline.
Norwegian Cruise Lines features "freestyle cruising," which means many of the restaurants have no dress codes, so you can wear casual clothing such as jeans, sundresses, and casual pants and shoes. However, many people who cruise today still dress up for dinner, and some of the restaurants on this ship do not allow casual clothing. To eat at the restaurants with restrictions, women should wear dresses or skirts and blouses; men should wear slacks and a jacket. Pack your dancing shoes for tripping the light fantastic.
Some shore excursions require extensive walking, comfortable and sturdy, closed-toed walking shoes are recommended. Norwegian Cruise Lines provides parkas for the trip to Mauna Kea Volcano, the tallest mountain in the world. Water shoes or sport sandals are perfect for the excursion to Jungle Falls. Wear long pants for the Zip Line Eco-Adventure, the Mudbug & Waterfall Safari and other trips. Take a poncho or light rain jacket on shore excursions for inclement weather. Carry your golf shoes and clubs if you want to play on one of the several courses in Hawaii; the cruise price includes greens fees and cart rentals.
Take plenty of sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. The ship provides brand-name toiletries, so you can leave your shampoo, body wash, conditioner and soap at home. Of course, take your camera and case, extra memory cards, extra batteries and plenty of film. Pack your prescription medications and sea-sickness medication; over-the-counter medicine like aspirin and ibuprofen are available on the ship.
