How to Collect Air Miles

Magazines, gift cards, hotel stays and vacations are just some of the perks that you can receive by earning and collecting frequent flyer miles. Each airline has its own program, but most of the major sites have the basic rules in common. Collect miles through various means and when you have enough miles, turn them in to receive your prize. Many of the actions we do every day can be converted to miles, so collecting them toward an extra bonus should not change your day at all.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign up for the frequent flyer miles program for every airline that you might normally fly. Even if you only fly once a year or so on an airline, sign up to take advantage of the program it offers.

    • 2

Sign up for a credit card that earns miles. Do the research to make sure that this credit card has an acceptable interest rate for your budget. If it is similar to a card that you already own, switch to the mileage card to get the bonus miles while not changing your payments.

    • 3

Check your email to make sure that the airline's weekly or monthly special emails will not go into your spam folder. When the emails come, read to check your mileage total and to find any special deals that the airline may be offering.

    • 4

Shop at affiliated online stores. Many of the major airlines offer miles in conjunction with purchases from certain select online retailers. You may have to access these retailers by clicking on a link in the airline email, but if the retailer is someone you're already using, add the bonus miles for yourself.

    • 5

Fly only with airlines on which you have signed up. Purchase tickets online, and always indicate your frequent flyer miles account number in the space provided. If you forget to add your account when buying tickets, most airlines will allow you to add it anytime before the flight by accessing their website.
