It can actually be a better deal to purchase frequent flyer miles than a whole new flight. Though it is hard to put an exact monetary value on air miles, airlines frequently offer seasonal specials on frequent flyer mile purchases, giving up to an additional 50 percent. Follow the simple steps below to buy miles for travel.
Join a frequent flyer program. American Airlines, Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines are just a few companies that offer frequent flyer programs. Most are partnered with dozens of local and international airlines, and allow you to gain miles on other affiliated airlines.
Log on to your carrier's website. This is perhaps the quickest way to purchases miles, though you can also call their toll-free number for person-to-person service as well.
Log in to the website with your frequent flyer number. This should have been provided to you when you joined the program. You may also be asked for a password or PIN number.
Click on "Buy Miles." This should be under the frequent flyer program section and will have all the details about purchasing miles.
Pay with a credit or debit card. You will need your name, number, activation code (located on the back of the card) and expiration date to make a purchase.
Confirm your purchase. Purchases may take up to 72 hours to register in your frequent flyer miles account. Log back on after that time to confirm your purchase was successful.
