  1. History of Converse

    • Converse is located in Bexar County, roughly 15 miles northeast of San Antonio, Texas. The city is comprised mainly of people from German and Irish descent. It was named for Major Converse, the chief engineer of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Converse is considered a suburb of San Antonio. In 2000 the population had grown to 11,508 with 390 businesses.

    • According to city research there were 34 registered sex offenders living in Converse, Texas in early 2007. The ratio of number of residents in Converse to the number of sex offenders is 515 to 1.

      The city employs 32 full-time law-enforcement officers, 29 of whom are police officers. Burglary and thefts top the most-reported crimes, with robberies and rapes next.
