The Best Time of Year to Travel to Las Vegas

When the first casino of Las Vegas was built in the Nevada desert, the laughs must have been heard for miles around. But no one is laughing these days. Las Vegas is a destination city, drawing visitors from every part of the globe. When deciding on what time of year to travel to Vegas, there are a few things that should be considered.

  1. Season

    • Come during the right season and you will be quite comfortable. When most people think of Las Vegas, they tend to think of triple-digit weather. But if you visit at any other time besides the brutal heat of summer, you can be quite comfortable in Sin City.

Visit during the spring and win big. Late March sees average temperatures between 44 F and 69 F. April and May temperatures average between 51 F and 88 F. This makes taking a stroll down the strip much kinder and poolside less likely to leave you tomato red. Additionally, for those who enjoy natural settings, springtime in the desert means that rare cactus flowers are blooming, some of which bloom for only a day or two each year. Nearby Mt. Charleston, a 30-minute drive from the strip, supplies stunning views of the city.

    Gambling

    • Depart for Las Vegas anytime of year if your priority is gambling. If you're gambling, you will not need to worry about the weather as you will likely be inside the casino all day. Even more so if your room is in the hotel where the casino is. All casinos have restaurants and many have inexpensive buffets, so most of your time is likely to spent in climate-controlled rooms.

Arrive during February or March if you prefer to place your bets on sports. There are two times during the year when gamblers can have the most fun in Vegas. The first is during the Super Bowl in February and the second is during the NCAA men's basketball championship, known to all as March Madness. These events welcome huge crowds in the casinos and can make you feel as if you're in the stadium or the basketball arena.

    Savings

    • Come at the right time of year and save a bit of money on lodging. Las Vegas is busy almost every month of the year, but there are a few times when prices are lowered. After Christmas and New Year's, which are the busiest time of the year in Vegas, hotel prices drop as the crowds disappear for the winter.

Go during the warmest time of the year, and you will receive discounts as well. Summer temperatures in Las Vegas are legendary. It is not uncommon to see temperatures of 115 F or more during July and August. Obviously, many avoid the city during this time and you can take advantage as lodging prices often drop.
