Those interested in cooking tours, Roman ruins and fashion are likely to pick Italy as a vacation hot spot. The country is surrounded by water and has a warm climate and attractions for any type of people.

  1. Largest cities

    • The largest cities in Italy are Milan, Napoli, Torino, Palermo, Genoa, Bologna, Firenze, Bari, Catania, Venezla and Verona.

    Caution

    • When shopping in Italy keep in mind purchasing counterfeit goods (i.e. fake Prada and Gucci sunglasses or bags) is illegal. As of May 2005, tourists caught purchasing these items can be fined 10,000 euros.

    Documents

    • Those traveling to Europe from America must present a valid passport. If staying for more than 90 days, a visa is needed.

    Pets

    • Pets are allowed when entering Italy as long as they have a service form from the Animal and Plant Health Inspections verifying the animal has all necessary shots and is in good health. Be aware that all dogs not a lead must be muzzled in Italy.

    Sundays

    • Most offices and shops are closed on Sundays unless they are in high tourist areas. Shops and offices are also closed on these saint holidays: April 25, June 24 and 29, July 15, Sept. 19, Oct. 4 and 30, Nov. 3 and Dec. 6-7 and 24-25.
