Go to your Washington, D.C. hotel Web site to identify the nearest Metro station.
Print a color map of the Metro system at the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority Web site. See the Resources list below for a link to the Web site.
Select "Maps and Stations."
Choose "Need a hard copy of the Metrorail system map."
Print the color pdf format map.
Locate the station closest to your hotel on the map.
Choose "Find a Stop/Station" on the same Web site.
Click on the station nearest your hotel.
Select "Neighborhood Street Map" and print to create a printed copy of the directions from the station to your hotel.
Visit the official tourism Web site of Washington, D.C., located in the "Who Can Help" section of the Metro Web site.
Select "Area Maps."
Click on "Downtown D.C. Map."
Check the "Metro Line" box on the left side of the screen to overlay the metro lines on the map.
Type your first point of interest in the "Points of Interest" box on the left side of the screen, and click "Go." Zoom in and out on the map to locate the Metro station marked with a blue "M."
Continue with each of your points of interest making a list of the nearest Metro stations. You can print each map if you choose.
Plan your itinerary for each day of your visit, grouping your stops by the nearest Metro station.
