How to Feed the Twig Catfish

Sometimes called the whiptail, the twig catfish is a warm-freshwater catfish for aquariums. These miniature cats serve as interesting-looking, adequate algae eaters in a freshwater tank. They are docile enough to keep with a wide array of tank mates. Feeding your twig catfish requires a little change in routine from how some of your other fish may prefer to be fed.

Instructions

    • 1

Smash an algae disc against the inner wall of the tank to release bits of algae throughout the day for your catfish and other fish that may like it. Although twig catfish are nocturnal eaters, they enjoy algae snacks during the day, depending on their mood.

    • 2

Add brine shrimp to the aquarium. Brine shrimp don't ordinarily survive in freshwater environments, but they won't live long enough for that to matter because they're one of the twig catfish's favorite meat snacks. Feed these critters to your aquarium community when it is dark, to stimulate the twig catfish's natural nocturnal feeding habits. One cup of brine shrimp per night is adequate.

    • 3

Introduce a pinch of ordinarily fish flake food with the brine shrimp to add extra nutrition to your twig catfish's diet.
