The Hollywood Christmas Parade has been entertaining residents and visitors alike for more than 100 years. Observing the parade is free, but premium seats are available in a reserved seating area for a cost. Participants in the parade include high school marching bands, elaborate floats donated by corporate sponsors and celebrity appearances. According to the parade's website, the same u-shaped route is made annually: "Starting on Hollywood Blvd at Orange, the U-shaped parade route will travel east to Vine, south on Vine to Sunset Boulevard and west on Sunset, back to Orange." The annual event happens on the last weekend in November.
California Ballet performs an annual production of the well-loved classic "The Nutcracker." The performance is held at the San Diego Civic Theater. This production is a holiday favorite and family-friendly show. Local children are often involved, appearing as extras and characters throughout the show, and the dancing, music and talent combines for a great performance.
This is an annual tradition that has been running for more than 100 years. In 2010, the parade celebrated its 102nd running. Elaborately decorated yachts and other boats sail up the coast. Prizes are awarded for the best decorations. Spectators can observe from a number of points along the Southern California coastline. The event runs, rain or shine, and the only time it has been canceled has been because of unsafe weather conditions. For many in Southern California, this is a yearly way of welcoming the holiday season. The parade happens mid-December, and boats sail the chosen route over a period of days.
