Local tide pool curators at Laguna Beach's Treasure Island offer insight about the sea life and plants found in the local tide pools. Guests peer into rocky depressions and shallow waters to find flowery anemone, sea urchins, sand crabs, sculpin fish and tube snails, among other creatures. Children should not disturb the sea life and plants to preserve the fragile ecosystem. Other notable tide pools in Southern California include La Jolla and Cabrillo in San Diego County or the White Point in San Pedro along the Palos Verdes peninsula. Cabrillo tide pools offer ranger walks when possible. Visitors should call local parks to learn the best time to explore tide pools.
For hands-on opportunities and interactive displays, families can visit the Birch Aquarium, Monterey Bay Aquarium or the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.
