  1. Huguenot Street

    • Historic Huguenot Street is located in the New Paltz downtown area and is an interactive journey through the history of the New Paltz settlers. Huguenot Street hosts a number of activities for children. One is a summer archaeology camp during which children can take part in a real dig and stay overnight in one of the historic stone houses. The archaeology camp is a week-long program. Other programs include overnight stays in the Huguenot Street Museum, ghost-themed scavenger hunts and a variety of 2-hour cooking and activity programs.

    Forsyth Nature Center

    • Just a 20-minute drive from downtown New Paltz is the Forsyth Nature Center with its 24 animal exhibits and numerous gardens. Open year-round, the Forsyth Nature Center has an ever-changing schedule of programs and activities designed for both adults and children. Through organized programs, children can learn the process of sugaring maple tree sap or take bird-watching trips with the center's guides to spot bald eagles, falcons and many other species of birds. Other activities offered during the summer months include morning and sunset kayaking trips along the Hudson River.

    Mohonk Preserve

    • Situated on the edge of the Minnewaska State Park Preserve, the Mohonk Preserve is a non-profit nature preserve where children can spend their day participating in a number of outdoor activities. During an annual summer camp, kids learn about ecology by investigating the life cycles of local wildlife, exploring the preserve on day hikes and making crafts. Children visiting with families throughout the year can ride their bikes through the 80 miles of biking trails or visit Kids Discovery Corner at the Visitor Center, where they can learn about weather patterns with the interactive computer programs available, handle wildlife such as turtles or wander into the Kid's Forest to explore. As of 2010, admission prices to the preserve begin at $10 per person, and is free for children under 12.
