Go to the Ellis Island Immigration Museum to learn about the introductory American experience of more than 12 million immigrants who came to the United States between the years of 1892 to 1954. In addition to the 45-minute audio tour, visitors to the museum can view exhibitions that include photos, videos, artifacts and oral histories. Visitors can also learn about immigrant families at the American Family Immigration History Center. The museum maintains a database of all immigrants who came through Ellis Island after 1897 (a fire destroyed earlier documents), which allows visitors as well as Internet surfers to access information about immigrant ancestors.
