Studio Tours of NBC in New York City

New York City offers many tourist attractions, but for the television aficionado, the studio tours at NBC should not be missed. NBC films many popular shows at the 30 Rockefeller Plaza location, including "The Today Show" and "Saturday Night Live" and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the television process through their studio tours.
  1. NBC Studio Tour

    • An NBC page will guide you through the NBC studios, starting with the NBC Sharp History Theatre, where you will learn about NBC's early days in radio. Depending on which studios are being used, you may visit "The Today Show," "NBC Nightly News," "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," "Football Night in America" or "Saturday Night Live." The tour lasts 1 hour and 10 minutes. Adult tickets (as of October 2010) cost $19.25, children (6-12) and seniors $16.25, and reservations are recommended. The tours depart every 15 minutes Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance on the NBC website, by phone or at the NBC Experience Store.

    Wicked: Behind the Emerald Curtain

    • The Behind the Emerald Curtain tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at the Broadway hit "Wicked." Participants are guided through the Behind the Emerald Curtain Museum, which includes a set model, actual costumes, props and wigs from the show. Each tour is run by "Wicked" cast members and ends with a question and answer session with the case. The tour can be customized according to group requests. Tickets are $30 per person, as of October 2010, and can be purchased at the NBC Experience Store in Rockefeller Center or by phone at 212-664-3700. The tour runs every Saturday at 10 a.m.

    NBC Studio Tour and New York TV & Movie Sites Guided Bus Tour

    • This double-feature tour offers both the NBC Studio Tour described in Section 1 and a guided bus tour of various New York television and movie locations at a discounted rate. The 3 1/2-hour bus tour includes Manhattan locations, such as the firehouse used in "Ghostbusters," the apartment building from "Friends," as well as locations from "Ugly Betty" and "Hitch."
