Road Trips to Disney

There are a few different routes you can take when planning a road trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando. What you want to see and where you want to stop along the way can influence the direction you take. Disney also has stops along the way, including two Disney Vacation Clubs, which can add to your road trip.
  1. Through Ocala

    • Plan your adventure to enter Florida via I-75 and plan a couple of stops along the way. This route will take you right through Gainesville, home of the Gators. Stop for the night or day and visit the University of Florida. If traveling in the fall, stay for a football game.

After you are done visiting Gainesville, get back on I-75 and make your way to Ocala, where everyone will get excited for Disney World with a stop at the Disney-AAA Welcome Center. Here you will be greeted by larger than life Mickey and Minnie signs and you will be able to gather all the information you need about Disney.

The Welcome Center is just enough Disney to get everyone excited. There you can ask any questions that came up while driving, get directions, make dining reservations and find out everything else related to your Walt Disney World vacation. At the center there are restrooms, snacks, brochures, maps and a gift shop. While parents ask questions and get information, kids can relax in the small theater which continually plays classic Disney cartoons.

After taking a break and stretching out those legs, get back on I-75 and head south. Continue on I-75 until you reach Florida's Turnpike, which you will want to get on going south. Once you reach the Orlando area, you will start seeing signs for Disney World, but the best exit to take is the one for Osceola Parkway. Take this road west and it will dead end at Disney.

The trip from Ocala should approximately two hours, depending upon if you make any other stops along the way.

    Through Hilton Head Island

    • You do not have to be a golfer to enjoy a road trip down the east coast of the United States with an overnight, or two, stop on Hilton Head Island. Disney has a Vacation Club resort right on the island, complete with recreation activities, Disney gift shop and restaurants. The resort is conveniently located for fishing in the Atlantic, antique shopping downtown or relaxing by the pool.

After staying on at Disney's Hilton Head Resort, hop back on I-95 heading south. You will travel through Savannah, a great place to stop for lunch, and Jacksonville. Continue on I-95 until you reach I-4, where you will want to get on and head west. This will take you right to Walt Disney World, where you will follow the signs to your destination.

The trip from Hilton Head should take less than six hours if you do not stop for lunch along the way.

    I-95, US Highway 1 or Highway A1A

    • Travel along one of three different routes on a trip to Disney's Vero Beach Resort and then off to Disney World. Highway 95 will be the fastest, but will not offer many sightseeing options, while US highway 1 will offer more of a chance to see the cities and stop for meals and shopping along the way. A1A will be the more scenic of routes offering a ride along the barrier islands of Florida's east coast.

All three routes will take you to Disney's Vero Beach Resort located on the corner of CR 512 and A1A. Guests will be able to enjoy a tropical getaway while you get ready for your Disney World vacation. Grab something to eat in Sonya's, sit by the Mickey shaped pool or relax in your ocean front villa.

When leaving Disney's Vero Beach Resort take CR 510 east to CR 512. Turn left onto I-95, which you will want to head north on toward Daytona Beach. Take this to the Beachline, also known as Highway 528. Go to I-4 and then head west. Follow the signs to your Disney destination.

The trip from Vero Beach should take less than two hours.
