Sightseeing for Ghosts in New York

For people who love paranormal experiences, New York City is a great place to visit. With its long history, there are many buildings and places where people have reported paranormal activity. According to Long Island Paranormal Investigators, various buildings, including the Algonquin Hotel, Belasco Theater and and the Bridge Cafe, which is build under the Brooklyn Bridge, are said to be haunted. There are various places of interest in and around New York City for people interested in ghosts.
  1. Chelsea Hotel

    • The Hotel Chelsea, also known as the Chelsea Hotel, is located in Manhattan on West 23rd Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. It was built in 1883 and is not only famous for the many artists, writers and musicians who have stayed there, but for the spirits that are said to haunt the historic hotel. According to FindingDulcinea.com, Dylan Thomas, Thomas Wolfe and Eugene O'Neill have all been seen in spirit form. The Chelsea is also the hotel where rocker Sid Vicious' girlfriend, Nancy, was brutally murdered. Vicious, who died from a heroine overdose, is said to haunt the hotel.

    Manhattan Bistro

    • While stopping at the Manhattan Bistro, located on Spring Street in Soho, for something to eat, it's said that visitors may encounter a ghost. According to FindingDulcinea.com, the ghost of Juliana Elmore Sands haunts the Soho building. It's said that she was murdered at the site in 1800. Legend says that she was tossed down a well in the building's basement by an assailant who was believed to be her fiance. According to nymag.com, the Ghost of Spring Street has caused plates to fly off the tables, and staffers have reported seeing a mist ascend from the well itself.

    Washington Square Park

    • Washington Square Park is a trendy park visited frequently by the younger crowd. Located by New York University in trendy Greenwich Village, the park was once a grounds for executions. According to Long Island Paranormal Investigators, there are around 15,000 bodies buried on the grounds of Washington Square Park and visitors have reported seeing spirits walking around.

    Mark Twain's House

    • Mark Twain's House is also known as the House of Death. According to Long Island Paranormal Investigators, people claim there have been 22 deaths in the house that was built in the 19th century. It's also said that all 22 spirits still haunt the house, including Mark Twain himself, who stayed in the house from 1900 to 1901. In 1987, Jessica Steinburg died in the house. She was beaten to death by her adopted father, Joel Steinburg, who was convicted of her death.
