Go there to study. The Boston Public library is a great space to study. There is a new and old section of the library. The old section use to house all of the books, but the city soon outgrew the old library and the new section was constructed. The new section is located right behind the old section and can be distinguished by its concrete exterior. However, if you go to the BPL to study, make sure to study in the old section because it is full of history and beauty. It looks like a place John Adams would have studied.
Visit the courtyard. Many Boston residents don't even know about the quiet escape the courtyard provides in the middle of the library provides. You will be surprised how quickly the sounds of the city escape and how peaceful your lunch becomes. The courtyard is accessible through both the old and new libraries because it is right in the middle of both. The courtyard has a small pool with gardens and tables surrounding the pool.
Visit the exhibits. The library hosts a variety of different free exhibits at various times of the year. Exhibits range from art to printed pieces and new media. The exhibits are free of charge and are located in a number of places in the library. Look at the calendar on the BPL's website to see what exhibits are coming in the future (see Resources).
Take out a book. Use the library for its intended purpose. Get a library card, pick up a book on reserve or browse the endless racks of books. Spend time using the online catalogs or ask the librarians to find exactly what you are looking for.
