It is convenient to stay at a hotel right on Disney property, but Disney-owned hotels can be expensive. There are three price categories: deluxe, moderate and value. You can save money by choosing a value resort. It won't have as many amenities as the more expensive properties, but you're not likely to be spending much time in your hotel room anyway.
For even greater savings, stay at an off-site motel. The cheapest motels tend to be located east of the Disney World complex on U.S. Highway 192. Some offer shuttles to Disney World; if you stay at one that doesn't, you will have to rent a car and pay for parking.
It is very difficult to find legitimate discounts on Disney theme park tickets. The cheapest offers require either a timeshare tour or provide you with used tickets that may not be usable. It's better to buy your tickets in advance directly from Disney. If the price goes up before your trip, you won't have to pay the difference. If you decide to try an independent agent, look for online reviews before making a purchase.
You will not have to pay for parking at the theme parks if you are staying at a Disney hotel. If you are staying off-site, you will be charged a daily fee. If you go from one theme park to another on the same day, show your parking receipt and you will not have to pay again.
Disney offers discounts on hotel rates, merchandise and tours if you have certain affiliations, such as being an American Automobile Association member or a Disney Visa cardholder. If you belong to any organizations that might offer a discount, check with Disney to find out the benefits to which you are entitled. Annual passholders are also eligible for discounts.
Disney typically offers discounts on their hotels and vacation packages during slow periods. These include fall, when children return to school, the period right after Thanksgiving, and the period in spring right before school lets out. You may be able to get cheaper rooms or a special deal such as free dining if you travel at these times.
