Disney Packing Tips

With a magical castle, favorite cartoon characters and thrilling rides, a Disney trip is enough to get any kid (or kid at heart) excited. Make the most of your trip by packing smart and remembering a few Disney specifics. Comfortable shoes and sunscreen are two of the most important things to pack for a Disney vacation. Certain items, such as gum and Polaroid film, are not sold in the Disney parks; bring these with you as well.
  1. Clothing

    • Check the forecast for the time of year you plan to visit. Casual attire such as T-shirts, jeans and shorts are appropriate everywhere on Disney property, with the exception of upscale restaurants; Victoria and Albert's in the Grand Floridian Resort requires jackets for men. Bring a swimsuit for each member of the family; you may want to bring an extra suit if you plan to visit the pool or a water park every day.

    Shoes

    • Visiting Disney entails an extensive amount of walking, so comfortable shoes are a must. Wearing new shoes while hiking around the theme parks each day will result in blisters; break your shoes in before arriving. Pack a sturdy pair of sneakers, flip flops or sandals and a pair of dressier shoes for evenings out. Padded insoles and moleskin are helpful in case your feet start to hurt.

    Theme Park Essentials

    • Sunscreen is a must, as well as sunglasses; consider straps for sunglasses, so kids don't lose or break them. Bring a hat or visor to keep your face out of the sun and a small battery operated fan or mister fan to keep cool while walking around in the warmer months. Don't forget a camera, extra memory card or film. Pack a small backpack or tote to bring with you to the theme parks each day; keep snacks, bottled water, a guidebook or park maps and other essentials inside. Bring a small umbrella or rain poncho in case of inclement weather. If you have children, pack a pen and autograph book for characters to sign.

    For Kids

    • Crossword puzzles, books or travel-sized games keep kids busy while traveling, in the hotel room or waiting in lines. Some attractions feature loud sounds and music; bring earplugs if your child is sensitive to noises. Save money at the parks by packing small snacks for the kids, such as granola bars or peanut butter crackers. Disney offers stroller rentals, but it's cheaper to bring your own.

    Health

    • Don't forget any prescription medications you or family members might need. A small first aid kit with bandages, antibiotic ointment and pain reliever comes in handy for emergencies; keep this in your backpack when visiting the parks. Bug spray is helpful for evening activities and aloe helps to soothe sunburns.

    Other Necessities

    • Print hotel, airline and car rental confirmation numbers and/or pre-purchased park tickets and bring them with you. Plastic bags or plastic bags are useful for wet clothing or protecting cameras on water rides. Fold an empty duffel bag up and place it in your suitcase, so you can tote souvenirs home at the end of your Disney vacation.
