How do Roller Coasters start at the beginning of ride?

At the start of a roller coaster ride, the train is typically pulled up a steep hill by a chain lift. This may be located beneath the station, or it might be visible as the train climbs and descends the initial rise. The chain is attached to the underside of the train, and as it moves up the hill, it pulls the train with it. Once the train reaches the top of the hill, it is released from the chain and allowed to freewheel down the track.
