Things to Do in Rome at Night

Rome, Italy takes on a different perspective at night with illuminated fountains, street lamps and bridges. Churches, monuments and piazzas are also beautiful with indirect lighting. Two informative and interesting walking tours and two romantic Italian restaurants are among the things to do in Rome at night.
  1. Dal Bolognese

    • According to Fodor's, Dal Bolognese is an 'in-crowd' dinner destination, and is located near the Spanish Steps. Diners you may bump into include artists from nearby Via Margutta, a design destination with lavish shops and chic restaurants. Also, corporate types on an expense account, models and young actors may also appear vying for a sidewalk table. Main course favorites are tagliatelle ala bolognese, lasagna verde and the veal cutlets bolognese. A favorite dish includes the famous bolognese bollito misto, a tray of boiled meats served as a second course, includes fresh sausage, veal, beef and fowl. Reservations are required, and credit cards accepted are Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. Dal Bolognese is closed on Mondays and also 20 days in August.

Rome at Twilight among the Piazzas and Fountains

    • Rome at Twilight among the Piazzas and Fountains is a three-hour tour with a maximum group size of 15. Groups discover Rome in its streets, ancient murals, palaces and history of its people. The tour begins in Piazza or 'open square' di Spagna walking to the majestic stairway of Spanish Steps, and then to Fontana di Trevi or the Trevi Fountain. Its architect is Nicola Salvi and the fountain has a nautical-themed Baroque art creation. A chariot in the shape of a shell is drawn by seahorses and guided by Triton. The centerpiece is Oceanus, and the fountain is symbolic of the sea.

Other stops include the Temple of Hadrian, built in honor of the dead and Pantheon, an Imperial Roman structure surviving years of plundering. The open squares of piazzas: Piazza Navona, Piazza Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Farnese and Piazza S. Eutachio are all included on the tour, each with its grand theme or interesting conception of art. Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are accepted for deposit only, and cash is required on the remainder when booking online.
