Basketball fans know French Lick, Indiana, as the hometown of former superstar Larry Bird. He was even called "The Hick From French Lick." Today, the town of 1,900 is known for having a resort that includes a casino and golf courses. French Lick--located in the southern part of the state--also has a railway museum and a water park.

    • The Indiana Railway Museum is more than just a building that houses railroad artifacts. It offers the French Lick Scenic Railway, which has rides on historic, diesel-fueled trains. The 20-mile ride lasts less than two hours. The scenic trip cuts through the 2,200-foot Burton Tunnel and the Hoosier National Forest. The museum offers special rides like a train robbery trip and a fall foliage trip. The museum's building has 65 locomotives and rolling stock on display.
