Activities in Chicago in October

October in Chicago can begin to turn a little cold, meaning the frequency of activities in the area tends to slow down. However, a number of events, including some held outdoors, can still be enjoyed in the Windy City during the early autumn month. Parades, festivals and concerts are generally available in October, and, with the aid of a light jacket, many of these can still be enjoyed outside.
  1. Chicago International Children's Film Festival

    • The Chicago International Children's Film Festival, or CICFF, is held annually in October and is the largest annual children's film festival in the world. The festival typically features hundreds of non-violent, values-based films from all over the world. More than 25,000 people attend the festival each year, and many film professionals and celebrities attend to put on workshops and other classes for children on topics involving the media and film.

    Chicago Country Music Festival

    • The dates and venue of the annual Chicago Country Music Festival have changed a number of times, but in 2010, the festival was moved to Millennium Park to be held in early October, and it is anticipated that it will be held here during this time each year. The event, in the past, has featured country music performers, such as Randy Travis, Wynonna Judd, Keith Urban, Faith Hill and Taylor Swift, among others. The festival was created in 1991 to celebrate Chicago's rich country music history, and has become an annual tradition for Chicago residents and visitors.

    Northalsted Halloween Parade

    • Held on Halloween, October 31, each year, the Northalsted Halloween Parade is "one of the city's most outrageous and imaginative Halloween celebrations" according to Chicago's official tourism website. The parade draws thousands of spectators each year, making it one of the most attended Halloween events in Chicago. Cash and prizes for costume contest winners are awarded each year during the parade as well.
