Take a tour of the premises with the Los Angeles Conservancy, an organization dedicated to the historic preservation of the city. This is the only group that conducts treks through Union Station. A walking tour that lasts 2.5 hours is offered on the third Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. It begins in the lobby by the Alameda Street entrance and is led by a docent. You’ll learn all about Union Station’s architecture while observing the ticket concourse, the north and south patios, the train platforms and the main waiting room.

Two rail systems utilize Union Station as a stop. Buy a ticket, ride over and explore it on your own. The Metrolink is Southern California's commuter train service. It connects with Union Station via regional trains serving Los Angeles, Riverside, Ventura and San Bernadino. Plus, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) operates the Metro, a local light rail system. Its red, gold and blue routes go to Union Station.

Various bus lines in Los Angeles use Union Station as a transportation hub. The DASH, a system of shuttles covering downtown Los Angeles, is one option. It even features a "Downtown Discovery" route on weekends that stops at Union Station, as well as at other popular spots such as Chinatown and the University of Southern California campus. Another bus line is the Santa Monica transit service–better known as the “Big Blue Bus.” It serves Union Station via Santa Monica and West Los Angeles. Finally, the MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) also runs the Metro bus system, which offers numerous routes covering the outer regions of Los Angeles—and many have stops at Union Station.
