New York City is one of the world's top tourist destinations. It's no wonder. There are more things to see and do in The City That Never Sleeps than anyone could get to in just one trip. There are several absolute must-sees, such as a Broadway show, the Statue of Liberty and Central Park. Before you go, you need to prioritize. What appeals to you the most?
  1. Entertainment

    • In New York City, entertainment is everywhere.
      Broadway is the globe's most famous theater district. Check out a new play or musical or look for a revival or long-running show. The district occupies a 10-block strip of the city, which is home to more than 40 theaters. Some of the theaters you'll find include the Helen Hayes Theatre, named for the famous actress, the Sam. S. Shubert Theatre, which features musicals, and the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, which showcases dramas and comedies.
      Don't forget another famous theater: Radio City Music Hall. This theater has entertained tourists and city natives alike since the 1930s. It's always a treat to see the Rockettes.

    • There are more historical sites in New York City than you'll be able to see in one trip.
      The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are a must see. Ellis Island served as the route through which many immigrants came to America between 1892 and 1955. Visit the museum at Ellis Island. Tours of the Statue of Liberty allow you to learn about the history and construction of the statue.
      The Empire State Building is a National Historic Landmark. The building, which rises to higher than a quarter-mile into the air, includes an 86th-floor observatory with views of the city.
      Rockefeller Center also has tours that will take you through the buildings and gardens that make up this site. Visit the Rock Observation Deck on three of the floors: 67, 69 and 70.

    • History is contained in the city's numerous museums.
      There are many museums to see in New York. One of the most famous is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This museum offers one of the world's top fine art collections. You'll want to wear comfortable shoes; an entire day can be devoted to this museum and its more than 2 million pieces.
      Construction is under way where the World Trade Center towers once stood. The site, now called Ground Zero will become a 9/11 Memorial. There is a fenced walkway at the site to allow visitors to view the area. Detours around the area are common, depending on construction.

    • Don't miss Times Square. The site of the famous New Year's Eve countdown, the area is great for nightlife year-round. It's also considered the pulse of the city.
      The 800-acre Central Park is a good spot to take a stroll or a bicycle ride while you're in the city. This is one of the country's most famous parks and often the site of various activities, including the Central Park Film Festival.
