The Best Free Things to Do in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is a fun town with tons of things to do to satisfy people of all income brackets. Whether you're into shopping and celebrities or beaches and nature walks, there's sure to be something fun for you to do without breaking the bank.
  1. Go to the Park

    • Griffith Park is one of the largest city parks in the United States. It's best known for hosting the giant Hollywood letters, but it also features stunning trails, a world-class observatory and more. Whether you chose to hit the more touristy areas of the park or seek an off-beat trail by yourself, you're sure to appreciate making this stop in L.A.

    Hit the Beach

    • Ahh, Southern California ... the sights, the sounds and the surf. It's truly paradise in L.A. with the great weather year-round and fabulous beach bodies all about. Where better to take advantage of great weather and hotties than at the beach, of course?

For a real adventure, visit Venice Beach and check out the street entertainers as well as the sexy men and women sunbathing.

    Try Window Shopping

    • While few people actually have the funds needed to buy things at Rodeo Drive, millions of people pour through the street eyeing the hip fashions available within the chic boutiques. In fact, these stores have far more window shoppers than actual clients.

Try Your Hand at Star Gazing

    • There are quite a few famous celeb hangouts in the city, many of which are totally free. Pink's Hot Dogs has been known to pull in stars looking for a quick bite and the nearby Beverly Center Mall is a popular shopping spot for the rich and famous.

If you have a few dollars to invest in a map of the star's homes, the remaining self-guided tour will be completely free as well.

    Visit Classic Hollywood

    • There are a lot of expensive things to do in L.A., but one of the most classic activities is 100 percent free. Going to the Hollywood Walk of Fame and seeing the stars and handprints of your favorite celebrity can be fun. Plus, there's always some wild and wacky street entertainers in this area, so you're sure to be given a show at the same time.

    Take in a Museum

    • The Los Angeles County Museum of Art operates on a "pay what you want" basis after 5 p.m., which, while it isn't technically free, can still be as little as $1 even a cent. The next-door Page Museum is free on the first Tuesday of every month.

Additionally, there are a number of free art galleries spread throughout the city, and the Getty Museum always has free admission. Getting cultured doesn't have to be pricey out here.

    Be in a Studio Audience

    • Being part of a studio audience is fun and free. Just make sure you register with the show for tickets ahead of time and always show up early as seats are first come, first served.
