For many beaches in Los Angeles County, including Malibu and Hermosa Beach, the activities are found on the beach and in the water. For Venice Beach, though, that isn't the case; most of the activities there are situated along the boardwalk. You'll find many street performers, including flame throwers, jugglers and musicians, and make sure you're on the lookout for Harry Perry, who's considered the world's most famous street performer. Not only will a visit to the Venice Beach Boardwalk be entertaining, it won't take a cent out of your wallet.
When people think of Los Angeles, the first things that come to mind are palm trees, celebrities and sunny beaches. What people often overlook is that the Los Angeles basin sits in front of the San Gabriel Mountain Range, which is complete with pine trees, creeks and even snow during the winter. These mountains are accessible from various highways, including Angeles Crest out of La Canada Flintridge, Highway 39 out of Azusa, and Little Tujunga Road out of Sunland. From these roads, there are several hiking trails that go into the mountains, and they're all free.
You don't have to be a million-dollar movie star to enjoy the sights and sounds of Hollywood. At the Hollywood Walk of Fame along Hollywood Boulevard, you can see which celebrities have been permanently enshrined as some of Hollywood's greats. And if you go a bit farther up the Hollywood Freeway, you can enjoy Universal CityWalk Hollywood. Located next to Universal Studios, this shopping and entertainment complex is always a good place to be seen in Los Angeles, and it too is free to enter.
