How to Experience Alpharetta's Big Creek Greenway

The Big Creek Greenway in Alpharetta, Georgia, is a community favorite park. With over 6 miles of a multi-use winding, concrete path, this linear park is a popular destination for biking, walking, jogging, inline rollerblading and spending time with canine companions. Hailed by "Points North" magazine as an "oasis in the city," the Big Creek Greenway encircles a wetland and can offer sightings of bluebirds, deer, ducks, wild turkeys and blue heron. Following a few easy steps will help anyone have an enjoyable experience in the deciduous woods of the Big Creek Greenway.

      Get there. Alpharetta's Big Creek Greenway has several entrance points: the Alpharetta YMCA, Haynes Bridge Road, Northpoint Mall (behind the AMC movie theater) and Kimball Bridge Road. The Greenway is located 30 minutes north of Atlanta and is accessible by GA-400. Print directions and a map from the City of Alpharetta website (see Resources below).

      Meander along the Big Creek path. From your point of entry, walk either direction along the linear path. For most of the year, the trees provide a lush, green canopy, welcome shade for all who enjoy the park. The Greenway's path has less than a 100-foot elevation gain. Ride a bike or stroll with your sweetie and enjoy a peaceful moment after a long day's work.

      Go bird-watching. Several birdhouses are positioned along the Greenway; look for finches and cardinals on your journey.
